Crested
Butte is located in southwestern Colorado at the north
end of the Gunnison Valley. We are 231 miles southwest
of Denver and 28 miles from the Gunnison-Crested Butte
Airport. Crested Butte is situated high in the Colorado
Rockies on the Western Slope, at 8,885 feet. Mt. Crested
Butte is three miles north of Crested Butte, at the base
of the ski resort, and has an elevation of 9,350 feet.
Alpine Express provides a Door-To-Door Shuttle between Gunnison
Airport and Crested Butte, with a fleet of 30 vehicles, from
10-passenger vans to 45-passenger coaches. Transportation, baggage
handling, and luxury limousine service are all available through
them. Discounts are available for groups of 24 or more. The Shuttle
meets each flight during ski season. Please submit a request when
you make room reservations and we can arrange transportation for

Around Town Once in Crested Butte,
the free town shuttle service between Crested Butte and Mt. Crested
Butte eliminates the need for an automobile. During winter,
condo shuttles serve The Retreat and other places adjacent to
the ski area, from 8am to midnight, leaving every 20 minutes
until 8pm and then every 30 minutes until midnight. There are
three miles between the towns and a summer walking or winter
Nordic skiing recreation path connects the towns as well. Feel
free to ride the free shuttle with your shopping, skis, or
bikes.
The Retreat is only 300 yards from the lifts, so you may walk or
ski to the lift. The Town Taxi provides door-to-door transportation in Crested
Butte. The Town taxi also drives the shuttle bus route after
midnight. We would be happy to make arrangements for you, upon
your arrival at The Retreat.
*Drivers
from Aspen need to note that following the first big snow storm
in the fall, Kebler Pass Road from Aspen is officially closed
into Crested Butte. Cottonwood Pass Road (a minor but scenic
short cut from Denver and Colorado Springs), from Buena Vista
to the Taylor Park area, is also closed. These roads reopen
with the spring thaw, usually by June. These roads offer beautiful
drives through back country and alpine terrain and wonderful
views in summer. Even your most basic rental car can make the
journey, provided you have a full tank of gas.
For the most of winter, our only
highway access is via US 50 and SR 135. Check with the
Colorado Department of Transportation for current road
conditions. The highways you will want to inquire about are US
285 from Denver to Poncha Springs; US 50 over Monarch Pass and
through Gunnison; and SR 135 from Gunnison to Crested Butte. You
may also call
CDOT at 1-303-639-1111 for the most accurate road reports.
